Urthgame

As you may guess from my blogs and multitude of websites, I have more than a few irons in the fire. You’ve probably heard the story: over commit, get excited about a zillion different things and start going in a million different directions.

That’s my story.

One of the exciting break-through projects during the past few months is Urthgame. On urthgame.com we use 3D gaming technology to create non-violent life-affirming interactive games. I started working with the G.O.D.D. team years and years ago partially as a result of nephew.

He was dying of leukemia. He was just a little guy, lost and overwhelmed by all the stuff that was happening to him in the hospital — poked, prodded, made to eat, sleep and bark on command. I gave him a Nintendo set — they were brand new at the time — and a bundle of games to use. Playing the games gave him a way to get his mind off the immediate situation. But more than that, it gave him an environment where he was the boss, he was big man on the block. In addition he got to do fun things like race around in funny cars, swim, fly, and pretty much whatever the games allowed. This had a profound impact on his mood and according to the nurses a very positive impact on his recovery from chemo etc. The positive input from the game “you are a winner”, “yay, you’re the greatest”, “hooray for the conquering hero,” and other cheering on from the video games had a very positive effect on his self-esteem, sense of participation in his environment, and more.

So long story short (or slightly shorter), I partnered up with like-minded folks and we’ve been working for about 25 years, off and on, to create video games that did this deliberately. People like Ormond McGill (famed hypnotherapist) and Claudio Naranjo (leader in the human potential movement) have very generously donated time and expertise over the years. Just 4 short weeks ago the whole thing came together.

The gaming engine is working the way we need, the inductions and interactions are functioning perfectly, and we are getting reproducible effects.  Yay!

For more information related to the UrthGame Prosperity Path project check out the blogs on Gorebagg’s World. This blog comes from EJ Gold. He’s the lead level designer and induction/affirmation mechanic. (I do the resources and other such. Dick is lead programmer, and B. is the one that actually gets the games debugged, tested, bundled, and delivered.)
